Looking for your next go-to finance podcast or media source? Whether you're diving into markets, curious about M&A, or just want a fresh take on finance, we've got you covered! Our Women in Finance Society has rounded up some of the best, most engaging resources out there - perfect for staying informed, entertained, and inspired on your financial journey. Let's get started!
Prof G:

When it comes to finding reliable and engaging sources of finance news, it's crucial to find a blend of insightful analysis and entertaining delivery. That's where Scott Galloway, also known as Prof G, comes in. A bestselling author, NYU professor, and entrepreneur, Galloway isn't your standard, dry financial news source. Instead, Galloway offers outrageous anecdotes, thought-provoking guests, and an optimistic, often humorous take on money and markets. His approach makes his podcasts not just informative but genuinely enjoyable and thought-provoking.
Prof G's main podcast is an excellent starting point. With four episodes a week, it provides a well-rounded understanding of the economic landscape:
Mondays - Markets: Breaks down what’s moving the capital markets, with a focus on financial literacy and building economic security.
Wednesdays - Office Hours: All about business, career, and life, offering advice that is both practical and inspiring.
Thursdays - Conversations with ‘Blue-Flame’ Thinkers: Interviews innovative and independent thinkers, from Academics to CEO’s to Veterans.
Saturdays - No Mercy No Malice: The audio version of his popular newsletter, offering Galloway’s unfiltered takes on the week’s events.
If you’re looking for a pure and more in-depth analysis of finance and the market, Prof G Markets is your next stop. This podcast is tailored for those who want to increase their financial literacy and economic security by understanding the rapidly evolving sectors, CEO insights, and the ups and downs of the stock market. Most importantly, Galloway emphasizes the importance of understanding our capitalist society and learning how to make it, and your money, work for you.
Finally, my personal favorite, perfect for any fellow politics nerds, Pivot, his podcast with tech journalist Kara Swisher, offers a holistic analysis of politics, technology, and the economy. The duo’s unfiltered banter and bold predictions provide a dynamic and entertaining take on the global stage.
I recommend starting with the Prof G pod. Once you’re hooked—as Scott himself might say, "to resist is futile"—you can explore the wealth of knowledge he offers across his other podcasts. And if you're still craving more, don’t worry; Galloway has a book or two about personal finance, that every woman at the start of their career MUST read, to start good money habits and build economic security.
Bloomberg’s Evening Briefing

The Evening Briefing is Bloomberg’s flagship daily newsletter, and my preferred option for staying on top of markets and current affairs.
Incorporating this 5-minute read into my daily university commute has been a simple, yet invaluable, way to keep up with the fast-paced world of finance and get a feel for the ways theoretical concepts play out in global markets. Who knows – reading a standout story might even give you a competitive edge during those coveted internship interviews!
The Evening Briefing also has a lighter side, spearheaded by its By the Way segment — see the May 5th edition from earlier this year!
While many Bloomberg newsletters require a subscription, the Evening Briefing is a free and accessible way to get acquainted with Bloomberg's wealth of offerings. You might even find yourself exploring further newsletters – think Green Daily for the latest on climate science and green finance, or Bloomberg Deals for insights on major M&A activities and IPOs.

The Dave Ramsey Show

The Dave Ramsey Show first appeared amongst the depths of my fyp, so you’ve probably stumbled across it too. It’s the radio show where listeners call-in with their (sometimes too) personal financial questions.
Dave Ramsey is one of the most well-known financial experts in the world, and lets it be known with his sometimes blunt but insightful advice.
The show covers a wide range of topics, from getting out of debt and budgeting to investing and planning for retirement. The common threat is a focus on empowering listeners to take control of their finances and live debt-free.
The situations are either relatable, entertaining or heartwarming, so it's great if you’re just looking for snippets of entertainment (with a side of finance).
M&A Science
Taking an M&A subject is one thing, but unraveling the complexities of real-life deals is another. There’s a podcast that’s helped me make sense of it all; the M&A Science podcast. Host Kison Patel pulls back the curtain on this complex and often secretive field.
If you’re eyeing a career in M&A, or just curious about how these deals shake up the market, M&A Science would be a great listen. This podcast goes beyond the headlines to explore the nitty-gritty of M&A transactions; strategies, deal-closing, and insights from markets across the world.
What to expect:
New Episodes: Drop every Monday
Episode Length: Around 45 minutes
Topics Covered: Mergers and acquisitions, corporate development, risk management, vertical integration, innovation, venture capital
Wall Street Skinny

Wall Street Skinny is a podcast hosted by two best friends, Kirsten and Jen, who both ended up going into the finance industry. So for me it's a perfect combination of expertise and yap… Both hosts didn’t explicitly come from finance backgrounds, however are extremely educated and knowledgeable so make concepts really accessible and easy to digest for audience members.
I started listening fairly early on in my finance studies, recommended by a friend, so I really appreciated the way that they approached explaining and educating. They provide a great insight into a career in finance and cover everything from a basic understanding of the industry, to the technicals you need to know to land the job and the skills you need to excel on the desk. The podcast episodes are a perfect length for a car or train ride!
So whether you are looking for a sneak peak into the world of investment banking, sales & trading, private equity, hedge funds or networking, resume writing and interviewing to get into the big firms - I would really recommend it!! Also its an important reminder that girls can rock it in the world of finance!
New Episodes: A few times a week!
Episode Length: From 20 min to even 1h 30
Topics Covered: investment banking, sales & trading, private equity, hedge funds, and different steps of recruitment
The Australian Financial Review

WAIT WAIT don't scroll past! When most people think of the AFR they think it's an absolute 💤 snoozefest 💤 BUT it is a really important instrument staying up-to-date on the latest in business and economics in Australia. I think for anyone studying finance the AFR can help connect the dots between what you learn in finance courses and the real-world events shaping the industry. I think its especially important to be able to understand what's happening in writings like the AFR, and that writing style for the big boy corporate setting. It’s always good to know what's going on for that next interview or coffee date you have lined up!!
While the AFR can be a little intimidating and dense… it is packed with detailed analysis and reporting on everything from market movements to economic policy, making it an invaluable resource for anyone serious about finance
But if the AFR is a bit much… A podcast like Motley Fool Money is a great alternative thats a bit more accessible. This podcast gives you a smart, cool headed and down to earth wrap on the latest finance and investing news from Australia & around the world.
Or if you are looking for more of a base understanding, The Good Oil with Scott Phillips, brings you the best of business, finance, technology and economics to help you understand the world of money . What's cool about this podcast is that Scott Phillips chats with entrepreneurs, experts, business leaders and more, informing you what it takes to be successful, and what you need to know to stay in the loop. He’s a pretty engaging fellow and a good option for when you want something a little more structured and serious.
With these podcasts and media resources, you’ll be well-equipped to navigate the world of finance with confidence and insight. Whether you're commuting to class, prepping for interviews, or simply want to deepen your understanding, there's something here for everyone. Happy listening, and remember—financial empowerment is just a play button away!
Until Next Time,
WIF Team 💙
